Universal’s kid-friendly comedy “Good Boys” topped the North American box office this weekend, Industry Watch exhibitors said on Sunday.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, this was the first time an R-rated comedy had been ranked No. 1 in early 2016 after the same studio’s Melissa McCarthy film “The Boss.”
Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, “Good Boys” follows three 12-year-olds – Brady Noon, Jacob Tremblay, and Keith L.
The three-day weekend was good for Universal, as last week’s top film, Fast and Furious Ridge: Hobbes and Shaw – starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham – slipped from first to second place. Million 14 million.
At number three in the second straight week, Disney’s animated “The Lion King” was ਡ 11.9 million. Its all-star voice cast includes Rosen, Donald Glover, Beyonce, James Earl Jones, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Sony’s new animation “Angry Birds Movie 2” is fourth, at 10.5 million. It was a huge drop from the original “Angry Birds” movie, which opened in May 2016 for 38.2 million.
And at number five was Lionsgate’s “scary storytelling” dark, valued at 1 10.1 million. Based on children’s horror books, it features Joe Colletti, Michael Garza, and Gabrielle Rush.
